Started a new career path as a Marine Surveyor concentrating mostly on On/Off hire surveys, pre-purchase surveys, cargo operations, bunker and draught surveys, cleanliness inspections and all other activities related to bulk cargo transport. Also responsible for ITS inspections. Have worked with tankers, general cargo vessels, bulk carriers, containers and ro-ro vessels. Well-versed with Classification Society rules, SOLAS, MARPOL and Flag State requirements.

Spent the next eight years as a Master on salvage/harbour tugs. During this period completed several dry dock lay-ups so am used to preparing dry-dock specifications for repair and Class requirements and was responsible for the analysis of the dry-dock quotes. During the dry-dockings I was responsible for the monitoring of the budget to ensure each vessel came in within its respective budget. Was also responsible for the sea trials and commissioning of one of the new tugs purchased by the company. Attended various ISO courses and became an ISO Auditor.

After completing an Officers' course spent four years on surface ships and then five years in the submarine service. As well as being a serving Officer on submarines, was also Project Officer for the refitting and life extension project for all electronic navigation and weapons systems.
